Education and technology are integral to the overall economy. Among the 89 degree-granting institutions situated throughout the region are some of the best country’s most prestigious colleges and universities, including world-renowned teaching hospitals.

Considering the presence of medical and dental schools, medical equipment manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, institutions of advanced research, and leading-edge hospitals – it is little wonder that the Delaware Valley region enjoys such an outstanding reputation for healthcare excellence.

The Delaware Valley ranks second to none in transportation efficiencies on the road, rail, air and sea. Thousands of miles of interstate, state and local highways and roads move traffic so efficiently that one-day truck shipments are possible with a 500-mile radius.

To the north, miles of Pennsylvania Turnpike combine with Interstate 95 and 476 and other high-speed thoroughfares. To the east is the New Jersey Turnpike, one of 12 major highways that provide connections to the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-295, and I-95. A total of six bridges link Southern New Jersey to Pennsylvania.

Commuters in this region can look to reasonably priced, comprehensive mass transportation through an integrated network of subways, commuter trains, buses and trolleys. SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) serves over 75 million passengers each year on buses and rail cars. Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia are connected via (PATCO) High-Speed Line and the New Jersey Transit Bus Service. Amtrak, Conrail, and several other lines meet at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station.

The undeniable hub of air transportation for the region is the recently expanded Philadelphia International Airport, where passengers embark on 2,000 daily flights to over 110 cities.
