Some of Pennsylvania’s most picturesque fields, wooded hillsides, and gentle river lowlands are encompassed in scenic Bucks County, just west of Central New Jersey. The myriad of historic sites that maintain the integrity of the county’s heritage include several that specifically mark its founding by William Penn in 1682 — Fallsington and Pennsbury Manors. Bristol, Doylestown, Newtown, Yardley, and Quakertown invite visitors to relive the Revolutionary spirit, while New Hope and the Delaware Canal mansions showcase our nation’s artistic and industrial growth.

Fast-growing Bucks County remains one of the most popular areas in the Delaware Valley, drawing newcomers to landscapes dotted by expansive farms and large estates or charming suburban townships. Although the entire county was once focused on agricultural activity, industry and commercial occupations now underline the local economy. The result combines the strength of diversity with bright new opportunities. Widely varied employers include such fields as scientific instrumentation and foodstuffs or apparel, ensuring the county’s position as one of the state’s leading economic drivers. The most aggressive economic activity has evolved in the southeastern sections, while the northern areas preserve the rustic charm of rural living. In spite of the proliferation of local commerce, many Bucks County residents are commuters to regional metropolitan centers.

Lifestyle
Bucks County residents not only live within commuting distance of international cultural centers, they have an entire world of artistic excellence and historic treasures just beyond the front door. As the art capital of the area, New Hope has provided inspiration to a long list of famous writers and artists. Early artists like Daniel Garber were later joined by such luminaries as Pearl Buck, George S. Kaufman, Moss Hart, Sid Pearlman, Oscar Hammerstein and James A. Michener. New Hope is still an artist’s haven, renowned for its 19th-century charm and filled with delightful craft shops and premier art venues.

Frequent enactment’s of key historical moments serve as brief introductions to the dramatic flair of such production theatres as Bristol Riverside Theatre, Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Newtown’s Langhorne Players, and Doylestown’s Dance Theatre of Pennsylvania. Museums, mansions, and historical sites abound. Highlights include Bryn Athyn Cathedral, the Pearl S. Buck House, the 300-year-old village of Historical Fallsington, the collection of amazing artifacts along The Mercer Mile, and Washington Crossing Historical Park.

Bucks County offers an abundance of diversions that ensure newcomers a wide variety of entertainment and activities for leisure hours. Quaint restaurants ranging from intimate to family-style serve delectable dishes in a warm atmosphere. The choices of outdoor recreational opportunities around the four seasons are virtually endless in Buck County, where vast state and county parks include the 5,000-acre Nockamixon State Park and its 1,450 acre lake. The Delaware River is a haven for fishermen and boaters. Hiking or biking miles of winding trails can be invigorating during any season.
