East Feliciana Parish nestles in a scenic, forested area of rolling hills just 30 miles north of Baton Rouge. Home to peaceful, rural landscapes and charming small towns, the parish offers access to technology and transportation efficiencies that will ensure continued growth and development, both residential and business. Major industries already thriving in this area include timber, agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. Large tracts of land remain undeveloped and planners are already developing a strategy to accommodate rapid expansion and still preserve a rare quality of life.

Services
Access to quality education begins with East Feliciana Parish Schools, where the motto is “Creating Louisiana’s premier school district, one student at a time.” Jackson is home to the Folkes Campus for Baton Route Community College Technical Education, providing on-site career programs for nurse assistant, patient care technician, and welding. Nearby Baton Rouge is home to the main campus for Baton Rouge Community College, where students can complete two-year transfer degrees or explore a wide variety of career programs. The capital city is also home to Louisiana State University, the largest public university in the state and the flagship institution for the Louisiana State University System. Fourteen schools and colleges include several that are nationally recognized such as the E.J. Ourso College of Business, the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture. Another highly respected public college in Baton Rouge is Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, covering 512 acres on Scott’s Bluff above the Mississippi River. Regardless of your educational goals, the ideal program is sure to be available in the educationally rich capital region.

Access to state-of-the-art healthcare resources is also facilitated by close proximity to Baton Rouge, where nationally recognized teaching hospitals and research centers are among the finest in the South. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center provides a full range of exceptional, award-winning services in its 800-bed hospital and the associated 95-bed Children’s Hospital. Our Lady of the Lake is recognized in a variety of areas including trauma and emergency care, stroke, heart and vascular, cancer care, and minimally-invasive procedures. Ochsner Medical Center at Baton Rouge is another nationally recognized health organization. The two-campus, 527-bed Baton Rouge General Medical Center has been providing quality healthcare to the capital region since 1900, recognized for clinical excellence in a number of specialties. West Feliciana Hospital in the neighboring parish of West Feliciana provides compassionate care in a community hospital setting. East Feliciana Parish is home to a unique specialty institution, Villa Feliciana Medical Complex in Jackson, providing medical care and rehabilitation services to those with chronic diseases, disabilities, and terminal illnesses.

Lifestyle
Bordered by Mississippi on the north and Baton Rouge to the south, East Feliciana Parish offers a rural paradise for tranquil residential living. Nestled in an area that reflects the elegance and charm for which the South is so famous, the parish features quaint town centers and historic treasures set against a backdrop of rolling hills. Grand homes throughout the parish feature the beauty of Greek Revival and Victorian architecture, crowned by 36 historic homes and structures in the Town of Clinton alone. Home tours are popular with visitors, along with festivals, arts events, and the popular Saturday community market. Jackson draws enthusiastic crowds to its annual Jackson Assembly Antiques Show and Sale, stretching over three days to showcase antiques and collectibles from scores of select dealers from seven states.

Few places in Louisiana or the nation can rival East Feliciana Parish for the quality and abundance of premier historic attractions. Port Hudson State Historic Site along the Mississippi River features a museum, a trail above the battlefield, and Civil War reenactments. Military aircraft, scientific, and musical artifacts are showcased at the Republic of West Florida Museum, along with native wildlife exhibits and a working railroad. The East Feliciana Courthouse in Clinton, circa 1840, stands as one of the oldest operational courthouses in Louisiana. Lawyer’s Row, dating back to the mid-1800s, houses the magnificent Audubon Regional Library and private businesses. Millbank Historic House, beginning as the Bank of Jackson and later a dance hall and hotel, is furnished with museum quality antiques. The entire family can enjoy horse and carriage rides at Elysian Fields Farm or the Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders complex in Jackson. When it’s time to relax, locals and visitors alike appreciate the natural beauty and fine wine at Casa De Sue Winery. Residential options within the parish include sleepy villages like Norwood, Slaughter, and Wilson in addition to the towns of Clinton and Jackson. With the bright lights of Baton Rouge so close to home, it is little wonder that so many people who visit East Feliciana Parish never want to leave.

Historic Jackson was the site of two Civil War battles during the Union siege of Port Hudson–one of which is commemorated each year with the Battle of Jackson Crossroads reenactment. From the early 1800s through 1908, nearly every style of architecture was built in the town, a legacy that has been well preserved in the National Register Historic District. Today, residents enjoy the relaxed lifestyle and quiet atmosphere of a simpler time in a friendly small community that features several regional assets. The Republic of West Florida Historical Museum is a treasure trove of  Civil War and military artifacts; antique cars, planes and carriages; antebellum furnishings, ship models, wildlife, and musical instruments. The Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders Club is also located at this site on a hill above the train station. Prior to the Civil War devastation, Jackson was called the “Athens of the South.” Today, the town is home to a technical education center for Baton Rouge Community College and the Villa Feliciana Medical Complex, a regional resource that provides specialized healthcare services.
