DEMOGRAPHICS / CLIMATE

The Twin Cities metropolitan region offers a four-season climate that is similar to many of the Midwestern cities with one exception. Bordering Canada to the north, Minnesota typically has temperatures that are colder than most of their Midwestern counterparts. Winter artic air masses push their way south from Canada, so period of intense cold are always expected. Seasons are colorful and distinctive, usually bringing large changes in temperature over a short period of time as they arrive. The humidity in the winter tends to be low in comparison to the frequently humid summer months that often combine with the year’s highest temperatures. Residents enjoy the full range of weather events from the usual fare of snow, sleet, and rain to dreamy fog and dramatic thunderstorms. Summer glory, autumn splendor, snow-clad winter scenes, and spring blooms create a constantly turning kaleidoscope of natural beauty throughout the calendar year.
