TRANSPORTATION / TRAVEL TO CANADA

You can enter Canada from three points in lower Michigan: The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, The Ambassador Bridge, or The Blue Water Bridge. No passports are required for U.S. citizens. Leave your pets at home unless they have had a rabies vaccination in the past three years. When you cross the border, you will be met by government officers of either country. Be prepared to present any identification that applies to your situation including a birth certificate, visa, or passport. You will need to notify customs officers of your length of stay in Canada, as well as any special items you are bringing into or out of the country. Customs duties may be applicable. U.S. Customs grants an exception of $400 retail value on Canadian items provided that your stay in has been at least 48 hours, articles are for your own personal use or gifts, and you have not claimed an exemption in the last 30 days.
