WELCOME TO CLEVELAND AND NORTHEAST OHIO

The multi-county region that is encompassed within Greater Cleveland as well as Akron and Canton is known collectively as Northeast Ohio. Cleveland is the most densely populated city in Ohio, situated along the southern shore of Lake Erie just 60 miles from the Pennsylvania border. Founded as a manufacturing center, Cleveland has diversified its economy to include a strong services sector, particularly in financial services, insurance, and healthcare. The biotechnology and technology sectors are also on the rise, supported by a number of forward-thinking organizations.

The Economist recently ranked Cleveland and Pittsburgh as the most livable cities in the United States, with Cleveland also praised as the best city for business meetings. Cleveland has benefited from a dramatic increase in investment dollars into downtown renaissance since the 1900s, and more than $2 billion in capital projects are still unfolding. Unlike most of the Northeast’s traditional manufacturing cities, Cleveland now boasts a downtown that is gaining in population. Commercial developments, renovation, and revitalization are driving beautiful new residential developments as well. The Akron-Canton metropolitan area just south of Cleveland is booming as well, where many new industrial and office parks have covered yesterday’s open spaces. The presence of three major universities and an international industrial consortium make the Akron area one of the leading liquid crystal and polymer research and development centers in the world. Akron also claims the largest concentration of plastics and rubber plants, machines, and materials in North America.
