The largest segment of employment in Hawaii is related to public agencies on the federal, state, and county levels. However, many of the largest private employers are associated with the booming tourism industry on the islands that has long been a mainstay of the state’s economy. The healthcare industry is the second largest private industry in Hawaii. With an eye to the future, the state is also proactively supporting the growth of the technology industry through university research, labor training, and infrastructure upgrades.
