Nestled in the lush green expanse of southwestern Pennsylvania, the region known as Fayette County welcomes newcomers to its friendly small towns and villages. The close relationships that develop within neighborhoods and communities as well as the cooperative spirit in the network of local businesses and professionals make this an idyllic place to call home. Verdant valleys, impressive mountains, and rolling rivers provide a backdrop of natural beauty for handsome new homes.

The majestic Allegheny Mountains cover nearly a third of the county’s total area, with ridges that cascade into rolling, fertile valleys below. In many areas, the landscape is defined by tributaries of the Youghiogheny and Monongahela Rivers. In this vast land, sheer natural beauty combines with a prime geographic location that includes easy access to Pittsburgh and Mid-Atlantic markets.

Services
Residents of the county can look to three hospitals that combine 450 beds for state-of-the-art healthcare. In addition to Uniontown Hospital, Brownsville Hospital, and Highlands Hospital in Connellsville, Fayette County is home to an array of convenient facilities and services. Clinics, rehabilitation centers, nursing and personal-care homes, and over 200 physicians meet every need close to home.

In addition to its quality public school districts, the county is home to the Fayette campus for Pennsylvania State University. The institution offers two and four-year degrees as well as continuing education and college-track programs. Also easily accessible is California University of Pennsylvania. Transportation efficiencies will be further enhanced with the completion of the Mon-Fayette Expressway in 2005, spanning the county and connecting to southern markets in Pittsburgh and beyond.

Lifestyle
Fayette County is proud to embrace the region of Pennsylvania known as the Laurel Highlands. This area is rich with state game lands, forested land, spectacular parks, and some of the finest four-season recreation found anywhere in the eastern U.S. At the same time, the county offers gently rolling foothills and valleys that welcomes residential, agricultural, and commercial development. Farms for dairy, grain, and livestock production blend with peaceful alpine wineries, creating agri-tourism with hayrides, gourmet food events, live entertainment, and dinner theater. A strong cultural community and local institutions of higher education ensure a calendar filled with performing arts and special events.

The area claims such contrasts as an expanding high-tech sector in modern business parks, the largest cavern system in the state, and a growing hospitality industry. Breathtaking natural beauty and outdoor recreation have boosted tourism dollars, drawing visitors to ski, golf, hunt, hike, bike, whitewater raft, kayak, canoe, boat, and fish. The area is also a regional shopping hub with a major retail mall and convenient plazas. Within the small towns and rustic villages, newcomers will find everything from elegant Victorians to planned and gated communities or cabins along the stream.

Enjoying a central location within the county along the banks of the Youghiogheny River, the 2.0-square-mile city of Connellsville was not only the area’s first city but once rivaled any region in the nation for millionaires per capita. This legacy of affluence is still evident in the magnificent churches, elegant homes, and architecturally fascinating buildings that were built by wealthy industrialists. Neighboring townships expand the possibilities for affordable, attractive housing on ample acreage as well as the recreational amenities. A scenic new trail will be connecting Dunbar Township and Dunbar Borough to Youghiogheny River Trail in Connellsville. Predicted to draw 2.5 million people annually, this recreational facility will add an estimated $60 million in revenue for the region.
