Distinguished as the “Christmas Tree Capital of the World,” Indiana County is home to growers that produce over one million seedlings and trees annually. Melding modern advancements with rustic charm, the county claims an economic base that includes education, agriculture, commerce, power generation, and high technology. Historic homes harmonize with beautiful newer construction on wooded lots, or sprawling properties with rich soil for large gardens.

Covered bridges, rolling hillsides, streams and woodland, patchwork farmland, and historic towns are just a few of the sights that make up Indiana County. Bearing the same name as the county, Indiana Borough serves as the county seat as well as the urban hub of education, healthcare, culture, and employment for the collection of small towns and rural townships.

Services
Local schools are enthusiastically supported, providing a quality education for area youth from preschool through graduate school. The Indiana University of Pennsylvania or IUP is nationally recognized as “public ivy” for its high academic standards and affordable tuition. Over 40 Master’s and doctoral programs combine with more than 100 undergraduate majors in six colleges. In fact, IUP is the only state-owned university in Pennsylvania that offers doctoral degrees.

A strong network of highways form efficient connections to regional arteries like I-76, I-99/220, and I-80. Local air transportation is available at the Jimmy Stewart Airport, which accommodates corporate jets. Residents enjoy state-of-the-art healthcare through the efforts of professionals in every major medical specialty, underlined by the expanded facilities at Indiana Hospital in Indiana Borough.

Lifestyle
In spite of growth, the county continues its longstanding tradition of quiet neighborhoods and friendly neighbors who extend a helping hand to each other. Throughout the county’s cities and towns, special events fill the calendar with performing arts, concerts, fairs, festivals, and seasonal celebrations. IUP enriches the entire region with delights like the Keystone Repertory Theater, the Lively Arts at IUP, Kipp Art Gallery, and the University Museum with its changing exhibits.

The region serves as a recreational mecca of county parkland, a major state park, natural areas, and state game land that abounds in wildlife and natural beauty. Historic towns like Saltsburg and Blairsville preserve the past, while the large Amish settlement of Smicksburg fills the northern tier of the county with scenes of horse-drawn plows and dedicated artisans. Housing choices range from well-kept vintage homes to beautiful new construction that includes horse properties or lush open space. Blending innovation with tradition, Indiana County offers newcomers an exceptional quality of life.

Characterized as a rural area, Center Township nevertheless claims one of the highest populations in Indiana County. Traditionally agricultural, the area is still home to thousands of acres of rolling farmland. Forests encompass the largest segment of land, however, covering nearly 14,000 acres with heavily wooded beauty. The selection of housing in the Center Township area is diverse, from older homes along tree-shaded streets to two-story Cape Cods and beautiful newer construction on spacious lots.

Centrally located within the township, Homer City Borough is a small but compact community that supports a limited amount of commercial and industrial activity within its boundaries. The local school district provides a quality education for area youth, many of whom reside in small towns that dot the surrounding countryside. Some of these communities include Aultman, Coy, Coral, Graceton, Lucernemines, Luciusboro, and Waterman. Homer City parks provide the area with recreational facilities like volleyball courts, a swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness course, and ballfields for sports play.
