The fertile expanse of Delta County is situated in northeast Texas between the North and South Sulphur Rivers. The area’s triangular shape resembles the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet, which has given the county its unique name. Three quality school districts serve the county — Cooper Independent, Fannindel Independent, and Chisum Independent — offering personalized attention in classrooms with excellent teacher/pupil ratios. Opportunities for higher education available close to home range from the two-year degree and certification programs at Paris Junior College in Paris to the array of undergraduate and graduate programs at Texas A&M University in Commerce.
Residents of Delta County have easy access to a number of medical services and facilities that meet specialized as well as routine healthcare needs. St. Joseph’s Clinic is available locally in Cooper, which is also the location of a physical therapy clinic. Hopkins County Memorial Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital in Commerce offer a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialties. Hopkins County Memorial Hospital maintains a staff of more than 40 physicians with specialties in family practice, internal medicine, women’s service, pediatrics, vascular surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, otolaryngology, and urology. The 30-bed Presbyterian Hospital offers comprehensive in-patient services including 24-hour emergency care.

Nestled in the heart of northeast Texas, Delta County represents a fertile agricultural greenbelt surrounded by several urban centers like Paris to the north, Sulphur Springs to the south, and Commerce to the west. The county seat of Cooper is the largest population center in the region, providing an anchor for other small but active communities like Pecan Gap, Enloe, Klondike, Charleston, Lake Creek and Ben Franklin. Newcomers to Delta County will find the relaxed pace of a rural environment in close proximity to first-rate amenities and services.
Recreational opportunities are outstanding in this rural area, anchored by the 3,026-acre Cooper Lake State Park. Serving as the county seat and gateway to the vast expanse of Cooper Lake State Park, the historic community of Cooper is home to less than 2,500 residents. Local attractions include displays of local history and artifacts at Patterson Memorial Museum, tours of gracious early 20th century country living at the McKinney Home, and excellent research opportunities at the Delta County Public Library. Those who prefer exploring the great outdoors will want to visit the Cooper Lake Wildlife Management Area, nearly 14,500 acres adjacent to Cooper Lake. Hiking, hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing are popular pastimes. From events like the Cooper Lake Bass Classic to holiday celebrations like A Dickens Christmas Festival & Lighted Parade, the residents of Delta County enjoy community programs and festivals throughout the year.
