Nestled in the heart of the Red River Valley, the region known as Lamar County is anchored by the county seat and leading City of Paris. Outstanding regional healthcare services have developed over the decades in this area, including Christus St. Joseph’s Health System — providing health and wellness programs to northeastern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. More than 400 beds on two campuses as well as rural clinics offer inpatient and outpatient services to residents of Paris, Lamar, and surrounding counties. Facilities include a top-of-the-line heart care center, surgical center, orthopedics, radiology lab, pediatric services, women’s services, 24-hour emergency service, and a rehabilitation center.

Quality public schools serve students from preschool through 12th grade, with an emphasis on programs and activities that develop the potential of each child. Opportunities for vocational and technical training as well as an affordable start on a four-year degree or continuing education is available locally at Paris Junior College. Operating since 1924, this landmark institution with its main campus in Paris also the Greenville Technical Center and the Sulphur Springs Technical Center as satellite campuses in those locations. Paris Junior College developmental courses are also available on the campus of Texas A&M University in Commerce.

Serving as the hub of amenities and attractions for Lamar County, Paris plays a leading role in the northeastern Texas economy. The city has also been recognized as the “Best Small Town in Texas” by author Kevin Heubusch. Regional healthcare and educational institutions, beautiful parks, sparkling lakes, historic sites, fine museums, cultural organizations, and the landmark 65-foot Eiffel Tower in Paris have distinguished Lamar County as dynamic place to live, work, and play. Each summer, crowds converge in Paris for the “Tour de Paris” bike race. Paris also claims the oldest municipal band, offering outdoor concerts in the historic district at Bywaters Park. The Sam Bell Maxey State Historic Structure and the Culbertson Fountain represent other points of interest in Paris, where the Historic District on the Plaza was magnificently restored after a destructive fire in 1916. In fact, Texas Monthly proclaims the area to be the as the “prettiest plaza in Texas.”

Recreational areas in and near Lamar County include Cooper Lake and Parks on the South Sulphur River just 20 miles from Paris. This 23,000-acre lake has been designed to take its place as one of the most popular fishing lakes in Texas. Home to Texas Cultural Center, the area offers an amphitheater for outdoor dramas, a 1930s working farm, a Caddo Native American Village, and a museum of Northeast Texas. Regional attractions include the Sam Rayburn Library and Home in Bonham, the Fannin County Museum of History, and the Ft. Inglish Park with its replica of a fort and restored log cabins. Housing possibilities in Lamar County are diverse and attractive, ranging from historic homes shaded by ancient trees to vibrant suburban residential communities and welcoming neighborhoods where traditional homes offer wide front porches and well-kept landscaping.

What city with the name of Paris would be complete without an Eiffel Tower? Boasting the second largest such structure in the world, Paris retains the distinction of the only Eiffel Tower crowned by a cowboy hat. This bustling hub of Lamar County is home to more than 25,000 residents who enjoy a balanced community with state-of-the-art healthcare and a college campus. Ideally located along U.S. Highway 271, Paris has developed a flourishing commercial sector with cultural and entertainment centers, more than 60 dining experiences, historical districts, and unique shopping. Love Civic Center, the result of a joint development project between local and regional planners, provides a multi-purpose center for a wide variety of activities and events. Nearby, the small town of Blossom offers a bedroom community atmosphere for commuters to Paris.
