Services
Established in 1812, Medina County is distinguished as one of the fastest-growing areas in Ohio. The city of Medina serves as a commercial hub for many of the smaller communities as well as the county seat, although Brunswick is the largest city by population. Wadsworth in the southeastern section of the county is the third city, joined by a number of smaller villages and sprawling townships.

Newcomers to Medina County can look forward to the best of small-town living in a region that offers quick and easy access to regional amenities in Akron and Cleveland. Interstate 71 north to Cleveland suburbs and the international airport combines with Interstate 76 into Akron to ensure commuting ease. Newcomers will find quality public and private schools in Medina County as well as options for higher education close to home. Nearby Wayne County is home to the two-year institution of Wayne College. Nearby Akron is home to the main campus for the University of Akron, which also adds a wealth of cultural and intellectual resources.

Three hospitals serve Medina County residents for a comprehensive range of facilities and services just around the corner from home. Medina General Hospital has long anchored the region with a continually expanding campus that offers a wide range of specialties. Additions have included a family birthing center, a radiology department that houses a $1.6 million on-site MRI and nuclear medicine capabilities, and the Medina Kidney Center. Medina General Hospital also operates a satellite facility in Brunswick that offers an array of medical services from immediate care to physical and occupational therapies. Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital plays an increasingly important role in the region’s healthcare resources, where more than 175 specialists represent more than 30 disciplines. Lodi Community Hospital is associated with the highly respected Akron General Health System, which adds valuable resources to the personalized care associated with a smaller institution.

Lifestyle
Medina County offers a picturesque countryside and charming hometown atmosphere, drawing new residents to a family-oriented lifestyle and a high quality of life. Many of the communities feature a traditional town square with a quaint gazebo graced by landscaping and authentic Victorian buildings. Even in the bustling city of Medina, you will find earthy treasures like a country market with handmade crafts, garden decorations, dolls, ceramics, baskets, Amish outdoor furniture, and seasonal produce. Orchards and farm markets dot the rural countryside with displays of flowers, baked goods, gift baskets, firewood, and farm-fresh goods. Valley City even boasts the county’s only winery, where visitors can enjoy tastings and tours. The rustic complex of Mapleside Farms near Brunswick combines a country restaurant with an ice-cream parlor and banquet facilities that overlook lush orchards.

In addition to outstanding regional recreational sites, Medina County operates an expansive park district and supervises recreational programs for all ages. Picnic shelters, hiking trails, fishing ponds, sports fields, playgrounds, and athletic facilities are just a few of the attractions to area parks. One of the latest feathers in the cap of the park district is the Wolf Creek Environmental Center. The Medina Community Recreation Center is a sprawling facility with fitness and weight rooms, an indoor competition pool, a leisure pool with waterslide, a whirlpool and saunas, a sports fieldhouse, batting and golf cage, and half-mile track. Wadsworth and Brunswick also offer community recreational complexes with a wide array of sports and recreational facilities and programs.

Throughout the county, residents appreciate amenities like golf courses, skating rinks, multi-purpose trails, and colorful local festivals. For an old-fashioned good time in the warmer months, Wadsworth offers a drive-in theater that doubles as a flea market on the weekends. Each June, visitors flock to the Brunswick Old Fashioned Days, while Medina features colonial artistry at its holiday art show and Wadsworth honors its Blue Tip Match heritage.
