Services
Educational excellence begins on the grassroots level in Clinton County, where four quality school districts combine with opportunities for a private education. The Laurel Oaks Career Development Campus is one of the Great Oaks Career Campuses, providing opportunities for high school students as well as the larger community. Great Oaks is distinguished as the largest career and technical education district in the nation, providing career, workforce, and economic development services to individuals, businesses, and industries since 1970. Southern State Community College meets a wide variety of higher education needs, from college-track programs to two-year degrees and certificates in exciting career fields. Serving a number of counties in beautiful southern Ohio, Southern State opened a new Wilmington “North” Campus in 2000. This state-of-the–art, 35,000-square-foot center replaced the former facility in an inactive Air Force base and now houses the Corporate and Community Services division of the college. Wilmington College offers a private liberal arts institution founded by Quakers to promote the ideals of humanitarian service, nonviolence, peacemaking, and social justice.

Advanced healthcare is available to Clinton County residents close to home, anchored by Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. The hospital is the primary facility within the CMH Regional Health System and provides a 150-bed, county-owned, medical and surgical acute care hospital founded in 1951. Clinton Memorial Hospital offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, including 24-hour emergency services, telemetry, observation, intensive care, obstetrics, inpatient rehabilitation, pediatric beds, wound care, and a sleep laboratory. CMH also offers a wide spectrum of radiology services and auxiliary services that are conveniently located away from the main campus. Among them are home care, occupational health, diabetes services, a dental clinic, a family practice residency program, urgent care, and outpatient rehabilitation. Also under the CMH umbrella are system-owned physician practices in family medicine, pediatrics, and neurology. The healthcare system employees more than 160 skilled physicians on staff and attracts more than 100 volunteers from the local community.

Lifestyle
Served by Interstate 71 as well as several U.S. highways and state routes, Clinton County combines a rural heritage with a growing number of businesses and industries including healthcare. Proud of its rich history and architectural legacy, the county preserves such sites as the former home of Gen. James W. Denver for whom the city of Denver, Colorado, was named. Known today as the Rombach Place Museum, the residence now houses the Clinton County Historical Society Museum. Other landmark jewels include the General Denver Hotel, the Murphy Theatre, the Snow Hill Country Club, and the Clinton County Courthouse in Wilmington. Built in 1918, the courthouse is an outstanding example of the Second Renaissance Revival, complete with detailed ornamental plasterwork and a large mural dome. Colorful murals add aesthetic beauty to Clinton County, from the Main Street mural in Wilmington to a commemorative mural on a building in Blanchester. The community of Sabina offers the Sara Rose Museum, an 1896 Victorian Queen Anne lifestyle museum, and the Sabina Historical Society Museum. Outstanding performing arts are available at the Hugh G. Heiland Theatre and Boyd Cultural Arts Center on the Wilmington College campus as well as the elegantly restored Murphy Theatre. Wilmington also features Roberts Arena, recognized regionally and nationally as a first-class show facility, and the Roberts Centre convention facility, hosting a wide variety of events and shows.

Those who appreciate the outdoors will find a paradise in and around Clinton County, including state, city, and village parks and a YMCA for indoor recreational activities. Golf courses, bike and bridle trails, swimming pools, lakes, campgrounds, and wildlife areas are just a few of the attractions. Caesar Creek State Park provides clear blue waters, rich woodlands, serene meadows, and steep ravines for some of the finest outdoor adventures in Southwest Ohio. Naturalist programs, an historic pioneer village, great fishing, picnic areas, boating, camping, and swimming are all available at Caesar Creek. Cowan Lake State Park adds a peaceful landscape of scenic inlets laden with the American Lotus water lily and is a popular site for swimming, fishing, sailing, and canoeing. The 238-acre Culberson Nature Preserve near Cowan Lake State Park is one of the few examples of the “white swamp forest” that once covered the uplands of southwestern Ohio. Wilmington, Sabina, and Clarksville now feature a growing stretch of Rails-to-Trails for multi-purpose outdoor enjoyment. A variety of dining and shopping experiences dot the county, crowned by the charm of Wilmington’s historic downtown district. Blending country pleasures and picturesque rural landscapes with urban conveniences, Clinton County presents unique opportunities for an enriching quality of life.

Located just 26 miles from Middletown and 26 miles from Cincinnati, Blanchester is a family-oriented community that draws newcomers to small-town friendliness and traditional Midwestern values. The majority of homes are owner-occupied, blending well-kept older properties with more contemporary construction. Some of the larger, older homes have been subdivided into charming apartments. Most residents are commuters who appreciate the hometown atmosphere and drive to nearby urban centers. The Blanchester Area Historical Society manages a museum and genealogy library. One of the most unique features in the community is a beautiful mural by a local artist that recognizes the centennial of the traction line in Blanchester by depicting the buildings and businesses that were located at that time on South Broadway. A local church boasts two unusual tourist attractions: the Freedom Biblical Museum with its fine collection of ancient biblical artifacts and the World’s Largest Horseshoe Crab, originally built by Academy Award-winning designers for the Baltimore Maritime Museum.
